Bougainvillea,
I have put my trust in you
For one day only you shall adorn the graves of my war children
That day, there shall be no passersby to pay homage, and no ladies
Will adorn their hair with bright purple; that day,
No homes shall be left to climb and no houses to lean on.
And you shall be alone in dutiful peace to adorn the graves
Of my children, my mother;
For, the men who took my mother are now drinking oil
In my neighbourhood.
For now, the glabrous men are making wigs
Of war corpses.

Bougainvillea,
I have put my trust in you
For only you have withstood the unforgiving Sun!
So, before the men return to decorate their wigs,
Adorn the graves of my war children,
For I have put my trust in you… Bouganvillea.
